A National Leader in Behavioral Health Care
NCHC practices were awarded the prestigious National Quality Leader – Behavioral Health badge from the HRSA Community Health Quality Recognition program, placing it among a select group of U.S. health centers recognized for excellence in behavioral health care.
What is Behavioral Health?
Behavioral health includes our mental, emotional, and social well-being, as well as the services that prevent and treat conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use. Because physical and behavioral health affect one another, challenges in one area can worsen the other. Addressing the whole person—body and mind—is key to long-term health.
What Integration Looks Like
At NCHC, behavioral health specialists like counselors or psychiatrists, medical providers and community health workers function as a team—sharing information, coordinating care, and supporting patients together.
Having caring and qualified Behavioral Health Specialists at our Health Centers means:
-
Convenience: Patients can receive mental health counseling, substance abuse screenings, recovery supports and referrals to specialists all in one place.
-
Confidentiality: Having Behavioral Health services integrated within a primary care practice removes some of the stigma of receiving mental health services. No one knows why you’re there.
-
Accessibility: The large geographical span of NCHC health centers makes Behavioral Health accessible to many patients around the Northeast Kingdom and all NCHC practices are handicap accessible.
-
Help When You Need It: Behavioral Health Specialists are able to provide timely, sometimes emergency bridge services to patients in crisis who cannot find a therapist.
