Northern Counties Health Care, Inc.,
a nonprofit corporation, administers a health care system with a unique
commitment to the people of the three counties (Caledonia, Essex and
Orleans) that make up Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Locally elected
community members make up the governing Board which decides policy
and strives to assure that the services people in the area need are
being provided.
Area residents share and support NCHC's commitment to universal access
to health care through town appropriation monies, personal donations,
and abundant volunteer efforts, making it possible to offer services
to all based on need rather than ability to pay.
Our Caledonia Home Health Care & Hospice
agency is the first Medicare & Medicaid certified home care &
hospice provider in our service area.
NCHC's health centers in Concord, Danville,
Hardwick, and Island Pond
are the only source of primary care located in the areas they serve.
In addition Northern Counties Health Care operates two health centers
in St. Johnsbury, ( Caledonia Internal Medicine
& St. Johnsbury Family Health Center ),
as well as two dental offices in Hardwick and
Island Pond. To support the centers, NCHC receives
grant support for its operations from the U. S. Department of Health
and Human Services in an amount that equals about 10% of its total
corporate budget.
